Hopster launches in Africa

HOPSTER ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP DEAL WITH MTN IN THE CONGO
HOPSTER PARTNERS WITH VODACOM IN SOUTH AFRICA

London, 15 January 2020 Hopster, the award-winning preschool educational and entertainment digital platform that develops young children’s learning through kids TV shows, music, games and books has launched in Africa partnering with South Africa’s Vodacom and Congolese telecom provider MTN.

Hopster has partnered with mobile & web application platform provider AfrikaStream to deliver its video content in the Congo with telecom provider MTN. The service which launched in October, allows MTN’s mobile customers to access hundreds of Hopster’s educational localised French preschool shows, books and music as part of its time-based data plan packages. Preschoolers will be able to enjoy family favourite and educational shows that are loved around the world such as Pingu and Peppa Pig, as well as the much loved African animated series from Nigerian animator Adamu Waziri – Bino and Fino. Children can also sing along with MoukLes Patapons and the traditional and beautifully animated African and West Indian Nursery Rhymes, sung by parents from around Africa. Kids will also be able to discover books like Henny Penny, the classic folktale that teaches kids about the dangers of being too gullible and trusting strangers.

Earlier this year Hopster also partnered with South Africa’s biggest telecom provider Vodacom,  allowing its customers access to Hopster’s video content via Vodacom’s new Video on Demand Service, Video Play which can be accessed via Vodacom’s premium package or as part of the family micro-bundle package from 5 RND / day. Preschoolers will be able to enjoy hundreds of handpicked age-appropriate family favourite shows and original animated TV series from Hopster Studios which includes science-based show Clever Brenda, fast-paced Grimm’s Fairy Tales series Two Minute Tales and empathy-focused show Saturday Club.

The partnership also features a direct carrier billing service that allows Vodacom customers to access the Hopster’s ad-free app, paying via their mobile bills, again, prices start at 5 RND / day.  Customers will be able to access Hopster’s fun shows, inspiring songs, educational games and  beautiful books that are built around an international early years curriculum which can be downloaded via their mobile or tablet for free from the App Store and Google Play.

Nick Walters, Founder and CEO at Hopster said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have launched in Africa with both Vodacom and MTN.  We see real potential for Africa to be a ‘leapfrog’ market – with a new generation of users moving straight to finding their favourite content mobile first, rather than on TV. We hope that South African and Congolese preschoolers will enjoy our fun, educational content and that we see growth in our subscribers and in future partnerships across the continent.”

Zunaid Mahomed Vodacom’ Group Digital and Fixed Officer said “As a brand with a purpose, education is a key pillar of our strategy. It is clear that children of today are living in an exponentially evolving digital era and the increase of smart device usage for education and entertainment purposes is therefore a natural progression. It is with great excitement that we have the opportunity to partner with a brand like Hopster, whose passion is educating the youth. Through our video on demand platform, Video Play, we have the opportunity to bring education and entertainment to the young minds of our country, whom we hope to someday shape into great leaders.”
